Uasa reaches deadlock with Harmony Gold and Village Main Reef

While Sibanye-Stillwater and Anglo Gold Ashanti indicated at yesterday’s wage negotiations that they are prepared to go back to their mandate givers to review their mandate, deadlock was reached with Harmony Gold and Village Main Reef.

The latter two mines refused to move away from their previous offers of R625 (8.2%) for category 4-8 workers, a 5% for miners, artisans and officials in the case of Harmony Gold; and R550 ( 6.8%) category 4-8 workers, 4% for miners, artisans and officials, in the case of Village Main Reef.

We consequently had no option but to formulate our dispute for referral, says Franz Stehring, UASA’s Divisional Manager responsible for the mining sector. UASA will now join NUM who already declared a dispute with the two companies at the previous meeting, says Stehring.

We are looking forward to receiving the revised offer from Sibanye-Stillwater and Anglo Gold Ashanti at the next session scheduled for next week Wednesday, 5 September 2018, which we will then take to our members. Anglo Gold Ashanti, however, indicated that a higher offer from their side will be conditional upon us signing off on the revised shift working conditions aimed at increasing productivity at mine level.
