UASA extremely proud of its association with SAGA.

UASA is extremely proud to be associated with SAGA and to have been part of the preparation of SAGA’s submission on the Performers Protection Amendment Bill. Adv. Hennie Strydom spent many hours with representatives of SAGA to construct a position paper that will hopefully contribute meaningfully towards putting an end to the scandalous exploitation of actors.

The massive royalties estimated at R5 billion in residual income for the Producer of the popular television series Shaka Zulu, compared to the fact that its main actor Henry Cele died as a pauper of chest infection at his home in KwaMashu outside Durban, bears testimony of the scale of exploitation of South African actors.

SAGA, assisted by FEDUSA during the presentation to the Trade and Industry Portfolio Committee on Thursday on the Performers Protection Amendment Bill, view their presentation as an important victory on the road to ending the severe exploitation of actors by the audio-visual industry.
