Inquiry into arms deal must be honest, legitimate seach for truth

Hopefully, the investigation will be for the right reasons

UASA welcomes President Jacob Zuma’s announcement yesterday of a new commission of inquiry into allegations of wrongdoing the arms deal.

It is high time that the matter is investigated, to clear doubts and suspicion and to get clarity about the role of government in the scandal.

UASA trusts that the commission of inquiry will investigate the matter for the right reasons and that the appointment will not be used merely as a diversion tactic away from the pending Constitutional Court case or some or other political diversion.

Who will be appointed to chair this commission and what the terms of reference are going to be will tell us soon enough what the intentions are with this commission?
