UASA concerned about petrol price increase

UASA is concerned that the substantial increase of 20 cents per litre in the price of all grades of petrol next week, as announced by the Department of Minerals and Energy on Friday, may prove to be just one more blow to South Africa’s still struggling workers and consumers.

South Africans are still struggling to shake of the effects of the world wide recession and this increase represents yet another financial blow for them.

“What we will no doubt experience is a ripple effect on production prices, causing consumers to pay more for goods at the counter, while the higher price will probably also contribute to a steeper inflation rate,” says André Venter, UASA spokesperson.
