UASA welcomes court ruling on accountability for damage during strike actions

UASA welcomes the ruling by the Constitutional Court in respect of trade unions that will be held accountable for damage to property during strike action.

While UASA has been and will be involved in strike action by virtue of our involvement in most of the bigger industrial councils and bargaining forums, we feel that the ruling will not impact on us negatively.

At UASA strict discipline is a priority, especially during strike action. We realise that literally anything can happen in such a volatile situation and that emotions can easily get out of hand. For this reason we ensure that our marshals are properly briefed and equipped to ensure discipline among the crowd.

UASA adopted three golden rules when embarking on strike action: Consistent and regular clear communication, good leadership and zero tolerance for unruly behaviour of members.
