Mboweni’s stint as part of organised business will help revive the economy:

UASA welcomes the appointment of Tito Mboweni as South Africa’s new finance minister.

With his long track record in the world of finance, including his tenure as Governor of the South African Reserve Bank, as well as in government as a former labour minister under Nelson Mandela, he brings the necessary expertise and credibility to his new position.

The experience he gained in the world of organized business as well as his stint as Governor of the Reserve Bank will make him sensitive to the needs of local and international investors. The latter will hopefully lead to a total review of our much talked about flawed economic policy. Through decisive leadership he will no doubt win the trust of international investors and the business community and will lead to positive changes to the country’s economic policies and addressing the unemployment crisis.

With Mboweni at the helm of Treasury South Africa has another opportunity to revive the economy. This will be no easy task with government debt too high and South Africa at a continuous risk to lose its last remaining investment-grade credit rating.

We wish Mboweni all the best in his new career as finance minister.
