UASA brokered an agreement with Bascol Manufacturing Engineers after the company hinted that it was not in a financial position to pay salaries or any remuneration owed to its employees earlier this year.
The following agreement was reached:
• December salaries will be paid.
• All outstanding funds to employees including leave days will be paid.
• Payment of leave enhancement bonus (LEB) will be paid.
UASA, who jointly with Numsa negotiated the agreement with Bascol, is satisfied that its members will now receive what is due to them.
UASA’s Sipho Sigabi, Operational Manager, who was instrumental in the negotiation process, says there is a lot more work to be done as Bascol still needs to provide UASA with audited financial statements for the past two years, its budget for the current year and its year-to-date management reports. Failure to do so will be viewed as bad faith by the union.
A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for January 2019.
